Will USDT be able to pass the EU compliance test or will it be left behind

10 October 2024

The crypto exchange Coinbase has decided not to wait for the final approval and entry into force of the bill on the regulation of cryptocurrencies in Europe (MiCA). The company will delist unpopular stablecoins and other questionable assets by the end of next year.

It looks like another “muscle flexing”: Coinbase is trying its best to find a place in the sun for itself in Europe, showing what good guys they are and how they follow all the MiCA rules.

However, I will note that the delisting may seem like an attempt to promote its own stablecoin USDC, which is offered to European users as an alternative to those assets that will soon be delisted from the exchange.

How this initiative will affect the market is anyone’s guess.

However, let’s see how all these new MiCA rules will affect the market. I wonder who will stay in the game and who will have to drop out? It is especially curious what will happen to Tether, which has accumulated many questions, including about providing false information about reserves. Will USDT be able to pass the EU compliance test or will it be left behind? As they say, time will tell!
